Costs / fees
Detective work is a personnel service and is usually charged according to the actual number of hours worked, that means per hourly rate (per diem rates are rather uncommon as inefficient), plus car/hour, expenses (hotel, flight etc.) and a basic fee (operations management, file management etc.), usually 15% - 25% of the total expense.
For an estimate of what an investigation will cost we need to know the problem, the area of operation and operation times. In individual cases lump sum agreements can be made.
A consultation over the phone stating an approach to a solution and an expenditure analysis (experience value) is free of charge.
Expenses for detective work are tax deductible
As entrepreneur, self-employed worker or tradesman you are usually able to deduct the invoice of a detective agency as operating expense (Finance court Hesse file number: 8 K 3370/88).
For the procurement of evidence by a private investigator, the expenses can basically be counted as reimbursable preparation costs and are therefore counted as refunding expenses according to § 92 CPR.
The following average quotations show standard rates, calculated by highly qualified private detectives (member of an association of professionals) in Germany:
Hourly fee
For detectives of the private and commercial sector the hourly fee is between € 59.00 and € 150.00. An additional charge will usually apply for assignments during the weekend, bank holidays and during the night.
Travel expenses
We charge on average between € 1.20 und € 1.80 per kilometre.
Expenses
Expenses are in general charged as agreed. Normally as an all- in rate.
Basic fee
Fixed rates depending on the extent and quality of the assignment or percentage rates depending on the volume of the assignment are standard.
